

Patricia (Pat) Burgess Mason, 90, of Melbourne, passed away June 25, 2018, at home surrounded by her family. Pat was born in Nashville, TN, on Jan. 10, 1928, to Hester D. and Robert S. Burgess. After marrying Lynnwood (Lindy) G. Mason, the love of her life, on June 11, 1948, in Washington, D.C., she began her life as a military wife, mother, homemaker, and volunteer for her church and community. Especially close to her heart was her volunteer work with the Brevard Association for the Advancement of the Blind, transcribing books into Braille from 1968 - 1987, until automation arrived. Pat was an avid reader, seamstress, knitter and crossword puzzle solver until she lost her sight to macular degeneration. She was raised in the Disciples of Christ church, and was a founding member of Windward Christian Church, Oahu, Hawaii. She was a devoted member of First Christian Church of Melbourne for 55 years.
Pat was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Lindy, her parents; brothers, Robert S Burgess (Jean) and James Thomas Burgess; sisters, Jane Franklin (Albert) and MaryAnn Adams.
Pat is survived by daughters, Virginia Kennedy (Michael), of West Palm Beach, Diana Mason-Smelt (Gerald) of Newport News, VA, and Sharon Barrett (Bill) of Sanford; sons, Randolph Mason (Zita) of Keller, TX, and Robert Mason (Debbie) of New Braunfels, TX; seven grandchildren, Amy Pritchett (Johnny) of Marietta, GA, Mason Kennedy (Raquel) of Port St. Lucie, Kathryn Earle (Kevin) of Yorktown, VA, Patrick Mason of College Station, TX, Trevor Mason of Austin, TX, Patricia Barrett of Rahway, NJ, and Joseph Barrett of Sanford; seven great-grandchildren, Mason and Isaac Kennedy, Justice, Jace and Jett Pritchett, and Menolly and Domick Earle; sister-in-law, Harriet Burgess of Marshall, VA, brother-in-law, Sylvester Adams of Sykesville, MD, and many nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held.
