Pauline Kiratzopoulos lived with her older sister, Agnes and her husband, Gus, in Hartford, Connecticut when she was a youth. Their mother, Angelina, had a series of strokes and was partially paralyzed, hence, her parents could not take care of their young daughter, Pauline. Upon moving to Connecticut, she practically raised Agnes' two sons and worked part time at her brother-in-law's Luncheonette, while going to school. When she was of marriageable age, she was introduced to Pericles (her husband). It wasn't really a FIXED MARRIAGE, but in those days, families would research the prospective family and make formal introductions. Fortunately, Perry was smitten by her and she by him, so within a short time, they married (April 1941). They moved to Dykeman Street, in New York and raised their two children (Angie & George) in a one bedroom apartment at 65 Arden Street. In 1950, Pauline and Perry moved to a 3 bedroom, 1 bath, $16,000 home in Queens with a VA Loan. All the homes were cookie-cutter homes and everyone in that neighborhood got VA Loans because everyone had served in the military at that time (WWII). It was supposed to be a temporary home-Pauline had wanted a formal Dining room, and this home only had a dinette. Well, 53 years later she was still there. She was artistic and creative, played piano by ear, sang, crocheted, painted by oil, made beaded flowers, floral arrangements and never afraid to take on any new hobbies or projects. She really loved playing Poker (cards) and Saturday nights were pretty much reserved for that. Later in life, she discovered SLOT MACHINES and would go to Atlantic City with Dad. Pauline enjoyed cooking and her home was always OPEN to all. On Sundays (after Church), we would either go visit someone or they would come to her. There was always enough "home-cooked" food in the house for anyone who happened to be in the neighborhood. No such thing as take-out food [there]. Saturdays was "polish the furniture day" along with vacuuming and changing sheets. The house was always ready for company! She always made people feel welcomed and she cherished those times (never complained). When she was in her fifties, she went to work full-time at BULOVA WATCH COMPANY in Astoria, New York. She worked until she was 65 and "supposedly" retired; but, she was called back on numerous occasions (until she was 72) to fill-in for vacationing workers. She was a perfectionist in every way. Perry passed away in April of 2000 at the age of 84. She lived alone for almost 3 years, volunteered at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Flushing and joined their Senior Club! Pauline came to Melbourne, Florida, to live close to her daughter and son. She enjoyed going to One Senior Place where she played cards and laughed a lot. She was a member of St. Katherine's Greek Orthodox Church and St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church. She will be surely missed by all who knew and loved her.
