Philip W, Rose, Sr., 85, of Rockledge, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021, at the Dr. Jey Pillai Center for Hospice Care (Wuesthoff Hospice). Philip was born June 25, 1935, in Westerly, RI, to James and Louise Rose. Philip met his beloved wife, Della, as a teenager and they later reconnected as students at the University of Florida.
He earned his Bachelor of Science degree at UF and his Master of Education degree at Florida Technological University, FTU (currently UCF). He was a beloved science teacher of 35 years in Brevard County and taught at Edgewood Jr. High School and Rockledge High School. He taught Science and Chemistry but had a love for teaching Science Research. He was proud of the many students who earned awards in Science Research at the National and International level. He also was the director of Brevard County Science Fairs for many years.
Philip was a longtime member of Rockledge Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, Trustee, Men’s Sunday School Class teacher, and anchored the Bass Section of the Church choir. Philip was a humble man who had a deep love of God, his family, and the Florida Gators. He was also a loyal volunteer for Meals on Wheels for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Della of 62 years, his sons, Philip W. Rose, Jr. and William J. Rose (Linda), grandsons, Philip (Trey) W. Rose, III (Aya), Tyler C. Rose (Abi), and Austin D. Rose (Hannah). Philip was preceded in death by his brother, James I. Rose, Jr., his sister, Nancy Rose, and his daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Rose.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, March 26, 2021 at 1:00 pm, at Florida Memorial Gardens in Rockledge. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm at Rockledge Presbyterian Church, 921 Rockledge Dr., Rockledge. RSVP is required for the Memorial Service at the Church, due to Covid precautions (321-636-0811).
