

On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, Prudencio “Rudy” Cepeda departed this life with his family by his side in Melbourne, FL. He was born on March 17, 1936, to the late Norberta Sanchez and Mateo Cepeda in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico.
Rudy moved to New York City in 1954 and worked as a machinist at various factories, repairing sewing machines and electronics. In 1968, he joined the New York City Department of Sanitation as a sanitation worker until his early disability retirement in 1981.
He was then self employed, serving as a court appointed 7A Administrator for the City of New York Housing Preservation Department, and as Managing Agent for city owned properties through its Housing Development Fund Corporation until his retirement in 2005.
Rudy was united in holy matrimony to Ada Iris Vazquez Cepeda on December 8, 1961. He was preceded in death by his daughter Iris Sochor, and is survived by his wife and children Ada Delgado, Prudencio Cepeda Jr., and Patrick Cepeda. He is also survived by eight grandchildren — Victoria Delgado, Brittney Delgado, William Sochor, Matthew Sochor, Andre Cepeda, Sasha Cepeda, Hendrix Cepeda, and Lennox Cepeda — and his great granddaughter Leah Sochor. He also leaves behind his son-in-law Alvin Delgado and daughters-in-law Joanne Cepeda and Jasmine Cepeda.
Rudy will be remembered for his devotion to family, his strong work ethic, and his enduring sense of responsibility. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
