Ramon Luis Martinez Jr. was one of a kind. His story started on the 10th of November 1970, as a miracle baby born to Harriet Martinez and Ramon L. Martinez. From his first words, his silver tongue was obvious; Ray could capture the heart of anyone he spoke to and change someone’s entire outlook on life with a simple conversation. He worked hard, but joked harder and was the life of any party. When he walked into a room he was instantly the center of attention without even trying. Goofy and bold as a young man, his life changed in 1992 when he met the love of his life, Janet Martinez, little did she know she would be adored by him for the rest of his life. Together they have three strong willed children: Amanda, Alyssa, and Anthony… triple A or the A team as he liked to call them. He always had a nickname for everything and a nugget of wisdom underlined every discussion he had. He guarded and protected his family as fiercely as he provided for them, he never missed a function or a birthday; he was the definition of an amazing father, loving husband, devoted son, helpful neighbor, and a wonderful friend. Ray was a force of nature, an advisor, a counselor, a comedian, a lover, a fighter, an observer, and altogether a wise man.
Ray worked for the U.S. Department of Defense for 33 years. He was possibly one of the most decorated civilians you’d ever meet, because he always set himself up for success. He was the traffic manager of the 832nd Transportation Battalion in Cape Canaveral where he oversaw cargo coming in and out of Florida. He wore many hats, but he was dedicated to everything he did.
Ray was a car enthusiast, whether it be buying, selling, working on, or simply looking at cars; it was one of his favorite things to do. However, what he loved most was spending time with friends and family. From going out to dinner, to just sitting around a table and talking, it didn’t matter what Ray was doing, but he always made the most of every moment. Ray was a man of many talents, but what he did best was talk. Every conversation, every piece of advice, every touch, and every encounter was one to be cherished.
His story was riveting: full of plot twists, romance, and little victories. It was a happy one, but it came to a tragic end on September 12th 2021, at 18:39. Though we may be devastated by this loss, it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all, and Ray showed us how incredible it felt to be truly cared for and adored. His funeral will be held on September 27th, 10:00 am at Calvary Chapel Viera; burial to follow at 12:00pm at Florida Memorial Gardens.
