Richard Philip “Rick” Armentrout, 81, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2026 in Rockledge, Florida. He was born to J. Frank and Helen (Steen) Armentrout in Binghamton, New York on January 23, 1945. He loved to tell people his birthday was 1-2-3-4-5!
Growing up in Marathon, New York, he loved to explore his rural surroundings with his dog Thimble. He rode his bike everywhere and had many daring adventures. After high school, Rick opened a gas station with his father – Rick’s Texaco - in Binghamton where they worked on vehicles together. At that time, he attended Broome Tech College.
Rick married the love of his life, Jeanne Marie (née Stoeckel) in New York on July 12, 1969 and they spent their honeymoon driving across the country to start their family in Los Angeles, California. He worked for Chemco as a Technician.
A career change brought Rick and Jeanne to Southern Florida for a few years before they moved to Brevard County and Rockledge, Florida where Rick worked at the Today Newspaper and eventually Lockheed Martin as an Engineer.
Rick’s hobbies included coin and stamp collecting, tinkering on all things mechanical, and mowing the lawn on his tractor.
However, his passion was for trains! In another life he would have been an engineer riding the rails. His love of trains inspired him to visit many museums and train stations to ride and learn all he could about the subject. His knowledge was extensive and very impressive.
Rick’s faith has sustained him through the years and he passed along the love of God and religion to his family. He attended mass regularly and through the years set a servant’s example of helping other people and volunteering his time.
Rick is survived by his five children: Katie (Bill) Anderson, Jennifer Maslowski, Richard Armentrout, Noelle (James) Botkin, and Teresa Yarde. The light of his heart were his grandchildren: Tim, Austin, Madalyn, Lynne, Julia, Nikolos, Victoria, Paige, Matthew, Allissa, Samantha, and Westley. They brought him so much pride and joy! He is also survived by his sisters Helen (Paul) Peterson and Terry (Eric) Kamien.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jeanne; his parents; a brother, Keith; and a sister, Jane.
“Life is well lived, not by milestones and moments that are defined by things, comfort, or success…
A life well lived is measured by those moments when you give of yourself, more than you think you can give.” Author Unknown
