Richard “Dick” William Cooley passed away at his Palm Bay home on Friday, October 30, 2020, at the age of 91. Born in Galesburg, Illinois, Dick came to Brevard in 1988 from Washburn, Maine. He worked for Dohrn’s, O’Donald’s Express and, Sanborn’s Express Trucking and was a Teamsters member. He was also a proud veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserves, Army National Guard, and U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Dick was a member and former Deacon of Faith Baptist Church in Palm Bay, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Andrew and Mildred L. Cooley as well as his brother, Donald Cooley.
Dick is survived by his loving wife, Janet M. Cooley of 67 years; siblings, Marjorie Osbourne of Aurora, CO; Beverly Hix, of Galesburg, IL, and Robert Cooley of Galesburg, IL; children, Rev. Ronald and wife Beth Cooley of Twentynine Palms, CA; William and wife Eva Cooley of Melbourne, FL; and Nancy and husband Robert Watson of Presque Isle, ME.
Dick leaves behind 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren as well as countless extended and adopted family members.
A private family visitation will be held Monday, November 2 at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial in Rockledge, FL. A private interment will follow on Wednesday, November 4, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. with Military Honors being conducted by the United States Air Force. A memorial service will be held at a future date for friends and extended family.
