He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Ana Register; his daughter Diana; his grandchildren Danny and Leo; his sister Patricia Poff; his brother David Register; and brother-in-law Mark Poff. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, John and Patricia Register, and by his older sibling, John Register Jr.
Born at Wuesthoff Hospital, Richard lived his entire life in Brevard County. He attended Pineda (Endeavour) Elementary School, Poinsett (Ron McNair) Middle School, Cocoa High School (Class of 1983), Brevard Community College (Eastern Florida State College), and the University of Central Florida. He earned his degree in Physical Education, initially following in the footsteps of his parents as a teacher and coach. Finding that the traditional classroom wasn't for him, Richard discovered his true career calling in social services, dedicating his life to working with children and young adults. Over the years, he worked with several agencies, including Crosswinds Youth Services, River’s Edge Day Training, and finally at Family Promises as a foster home licensing agent. Dedicated to helping his clients achieve a better life, he navigated the frustrations and heartbreaks of the work with unwavering determination for the best possible outcomes.
Rich was smart, witty, outgoing, and outspoken, making lifelong friends in every endeavor he pursued. A voracious reader, he also enjoyed sports primarily college basketball and football. Having played baseball his entire youth, coached by his father during his teenage years, Rich later assisted in coaching the Brevard Community College basketball team during the mid-to-late 1980s.
Rich had a big soft spot for children and pets. His favorite pastimes were spent with Ana taking long drives, eating out, and walking the beach in the early morning. Together, they looked forward to aging together, traveling, and spending as much time as possible with their beautiful grandchildren. The world was a better place for Richard being in it, and he will be sorely missed by many.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 9th, at the Dignity Life Event Center at Florida Memorial Gardens, located at 5950 South U.S. Hwy 1, Rockledge. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM, with a service to follow. Interment will be private for family only.
