Robert is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 60 years, Patsy Sexton; children, Darryl Sexton (Nancy), Lisa Justus, Cheryl Webb, Mike Sexton (Karen), Jim Sexton, and David Sexton (Kristi); 13 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Minuard and Helen Sexton, brother Paul Sexton, and grandson Robert Sexton.
Robert was born in 1939 and resided in Hendersonville, North Carolina for his formative years. He continued the hard work of generations past on the Sexton dairy farm and became a man of many trades, including making donuts at 4 a.m. at the local bakery. He soon made his way to Florida, making many memories that would become well-known family stories along the way.
Perhaps the most special part of Robert’s life was meeting the love of his life, Patsy in Melbourne, Florida. Together, they built a life of family, dedication, and success. Robert was most at home behind the steering wheel. May it be a tractor, taxi, cement truck, antique car, dump truck or school bus. He loved to drive! In the early 70's Robert became an independent dump truck owner. That one dump truck would eventually lead to the creation of Robert A. Sexton Trucking which he owned and operated for more than 30 years. Over those years and the many miles spent behind the wheel he made many life-long friends in the trucking community.
Throughout his life, Robert had many roles that he will be remembered by, including that of a loving grandfather who never missed a ball game. He led by example, demonstrating that hard work is the driving force behind success and some good ole “wheeling and dealing” goes a long way. “Bobby” will be missed greatly during family gatherings, at dinner tables, and especially when one of his quick-witted sayings is needed.
Robert was a man of faith.
