Jamey was born on October 28, 1976 in Fort Benning, GA and was raised in Parkersburg, WV and Leavenworth, KS. He received three Associates Degrees from the Washington State University and earned his Bachelor of Science from Bowling Green University. He worked as a Life Cycle Engineer for CSC and Raytheon for thirteen years before moving on to AIT Engineering in late 2018.
Jamey lived in Colorado Springs, CO and Bowling Green, OH before settling in Orlando, FL where he said goodbye to the cold weather and became a flip flop wearing, sun loving Floridian and met his wife, Lauren. Jamey was passionate about his family, his cats Ti and Digger, music, scuba diving, camping, cooking, problem solving and helping others.
Jamey impressed and touched us all with his kind-hearted, dutiful and adventurous spirit. He was an incredible husband, an ever-loving son, a loyal brother, a generous uncle and an exemplary friend to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and worked to fix or improve whatever necessary to make the lives of those around him easier. Jamey gave back to his community by volunteering with Diveheart and the local food pantry.
Jamey was an amazingly talented musician and guitarist. He loved to sing and perform for friends or at the local open mic night or jam with Wes and their two-man band. He was self-taught and could pick up almost any song by ear. He also enjoyed going to concerts with his wife and was able to combine his love for the outdoors and music when he attended a James Taylor concert at Red Rocks Amphitheater with his mom, Sandy.
Jamey despised social media and lived and seized every moment. He was passionate about the outdoors. He loved to spend weekends camping and scuba diving. In his younger years he was an avid rock climber in Colorado and climbed Devils Tower with his dad, John, in 2002. In 2014, Jamey and his wife completed a cross country trip in their motorhome with their two cats.
As his final act of generosity, Jamey lives on as he donated his kidneys and liver to three recipients who will have the opportunity to live longer healthier lives because of Jamey’s selflessness.
Jamey is survived by his beloved wife of ten years Lauren Harris; mother Sandra Harris; father Retired Lieutenant Colonel John Harris and stepmother Vicki Harris; brothers: Jay Harris (and wife Shannon Mingo Harris) and Bobby McKee (and wife Amy McKee); sisters: Sherry Sturman, Allegra Coe and Corey Mason; Grandfather Frank Harris; nieces and nephews: Nicole Harris, Bryar Harris, Landon Maya, Skyla McKee, Dylan McKee and Keegan McKee; mother-in-law Lynn Zaballa and father-in-law Ramon Zaballa; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins.
