Shirley was born March 23rd, 1929, in Chicago Illinois to Alexander and Mildred Marema. Shirley and her older sister Dorothy grew up in a close-knit extended family where they learned the importance of family, church, community, and strong faith. At the age of 18 Shirley’s father passed away suddenly and she felt a strong need to be with her mother whom she was very close to. After a while and when she felt her mother was strong enough to let her go, she left her home for Washington DC where she became a bookkeeper.
Shirley loved the excitement and the history of Washington DC but in February 1957 after staying in Washington to watch President Eisenhower’s inauguration Shirley felt the need to be with her sister and family in Cocoa Florida. Her mother had remarried, and Shirley felt a need for family. After arriving in Cocoa, she took a job at the Credit Union at Patrick Air Force Base then later at Space Technology Laboratories at Patrick where she met Myron Mirowsky and on February 12th, 1959, they married. They welcomed their daughter, Karen to the family on Aug 11th, 1961, and son Mark on April 16th, 1963. Shirley became a stay-at-home mom after her children were born. Shirley stayed very active with her church, singing in the choir and the bell choir and working in the church thrift shop for many years. Even with all of her activities with her children as the many field trips, being a homeroom mom, working in the clinic at school, being an officer in the PTA, she somehow found the time to work with handicapped children as well. With all of these activities and having a strong Church family she developed wonderful long-lasting friendships along the way. Shirley was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and devoted friend to many.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years Myron and sister Dorothy and brother-in-law Bill Moehle.
She is survived by her daughter Karen Lancaster and son-in-law Dean Lancaster, son Mark Mirowsky and daughter-in-law Sandy, grandchildren Jason Lancaster and Jessica Giardina, grandson-in-law Randy Giardina and great grandchildren Jennifer Fields, Ariel Bell, Baylee and Cydnee Lancaster and Lucas Giardina. She will be missed by them and all of her many friends.
