The son of Fred and Tena and brother of Severt, Sidney was born on May 25, 1934, in Glenwood and grew up in Grove Lake and Cyrus, Minnesota.
At the age of 18, Sidney enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for 27 years. He highly valued this service and attained the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. His service in the military varied from airplane mechanic to nuclear missile silos in Okinawa which was confidential until recently. During his final years of service, he was stationed at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base (CCAFB) for the Titan program. Later, he worked at Pan Am, Johnson Controls, and Martin while still at CCAFB.
Sidney was married to Lois Jayne Stoen on January 21, 1955, and they had three children. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Lois; three children, Deborah (Charles), Diane (Troy), and Donald (Lisa); five grandchildren, Christina (Daniel), Derek (Summer), Melissa, Emma, and Amelia; and one great-grandson, Bennett. His loved ones will remember his ability to fix anything. If it was broken, he knew how to fix it. He had a sharp wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He loved dancing the polka, fishing and taking everyone learning to water ski for a spin around the lake.
To honor the life of Sidney Frederick Koerlin, a visitation will be held Friday, June 24 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Life Event Center at Florida Memorial in Rockledge, Florida, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM.
