

Thomas Everett “Harold” Alman, 78 passed into eternal rest on Saturday, Feb.14, 2015, at Cape Canaveral Hospital following a heart attack. Tom was born on May 17, 1936, in Tampa, FL to Harold Everett and Lucy Anne Crowe Alman. After graduating from Brandon H.S. in 1953, he attended the University of Florida, graduating with honors in 1957 with a B.S. degree in Mathematics. After graduation, Tom served in the U.S. Naval Reserve based in Great Lakes, IL. Following his service, Tom began his career with Westinghouse in Buffalo, NY, as a computer programmer. On January 24, 1959, Tom married Ruth Scruggs, a fellow student at the University of FL, and they began their long happy marriage together in Buffalo.
In March, 1962, Tom accepted a position with RCA in the rapidly booming space industry and returned to the warmth of his native FL, settling in Titusville. Ultimately, he retired as Vice President of RCA Government Services. During his tenure, which included stints in Ft. Walton Beach, FL, and Cherry Hill, NJ, Tom was RCA’s General Manager for Department of Defense test range operations and engineering contracts at Cape Canaveral and Eglin Air Force Base and the Operations Director of RCA’s technical service contracts throughout the southeastern and southwestern United States.
While in Titusville, Tom and Ruth were active members of the First United Methodist Church. Tom was a passionate baseball fan. He spent many joyful years as a volunteer umpire for Indian River City Little League. He also loved his Atlanta Braves. Tom Loved to travel, especially where he could enjoy the beauty of nature. Once grandchildren arrived, he loved to include them in his adventures, enjoying several intergenerational Elderhostel trips with them. He relished time spent in the mountains in his beloved Blowing Rock, NC. Tom was a self-starter from an early age and always placed his wife and family as his highest priority. He also took time in retirement to author two books, one offering his personal observations on various aspects of life and another on government contracts proposal development.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth, his daughter Kathy (Craig) Springfield, three grandchildren, Julia, Jonathan, and Amy Springfield, a sister, Cheryl (Cosmo) Anastasi, and two nephews, Ward and Troy Smith.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Titusville at a date and time (likely in late June) to be decided upon by the family in the near future.
