Thomas (Thom) John Balazik passed away peacefully at his home in Florida surrounded by loved ones on November 1, 2025 after many years of living with dementia. Thom was born to John & Margaret Balazik in Uniontown PA in 1948, moved to Hopewell VA at 12 and graduated from Hopewell High School in 1967. He remained in the Tri-City area for over 50 years between Hopewell, Colonial Heights, and Prince George County before relocating to Florida in 2014. He worked for and retired from Honeywell in Hopewell VA and also retired with 23 years of service in the United States Army Reserves.
Thom was an excellent provider and was truly selfless. Of his many attributes to consider, the family never heard him complain. Willing to work and serve others was something that came easy for him. He had many friends that were dear to him, including Wayne Slayden of Dinwiddie VA and the late Vance Johnson of Hopewell VA. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, his friendships there were of great value to him and are too many to name. He greatly enjoyed serving others, whether cutting grass, delivering firewood, or giving someone a ride. He loved to joke, but riding was his favorite past-time and relentlessly asked to “go riding” up until his last days. He also enjoyed watching and attending sporting events. He gave countless hours to his kids and their friends as a coach over the years.
The “long goodbye” of dementia was eased knowing he could reach his friends by telephone. Though the last few days it became difficult to understand him and for him to speak he still made and took calls. His family would like to thank the countless hours of those that took calls from him over the past few years, often multiple times in one day, to take the same questions repeatedly, about the weather and who was and was not still alive. His relationships with others was of great value to him.
Thom is survived by his wife of 55 years, Lucinder (Cindy) Balazik, his daughter Nikki of Texas and his son TJ of Florida and four grandchildren. He is also survived by his older brother John Balazik, wife Beth, of Petersburg VA and family and cousins in Fayette Co. PA. He is preceded in death by his parents Margaret and John Balazik and his niece Wendy Balazik.
The family invites you to a celebration of life on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from 1pm-3pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 501 Compton Road, Colonial Heights, VA 23834. He will then be interred at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims FL at a later date..
