Dwight Eugene Mothershead, age 90, of Rogers, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, June 30, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Rogers with his wife Marilyn by his side. Dwight was born February 25, 1935, on a farm near Gravity, lowa, to Ollen and Naomi (Wilson) Mothershead.
He graduated from Gravity High School in 1952 at the age of 17. At graduation he was awarded the Iowa State Bar Association Citizenship award. He went into farming with his dad. He grew up with a deep appreciation for hard work and personal responsibility. These values shaped how he lived and worked. He sped through life in the fast lane, eating, walking, and working, as he never did anything slow.
In 1966, he purchased a farm near Gravity, lowa, and on August 7th, he married Marilyn Corbin. In addition to farming, he worked at a plant in Corning, lowa. When the plant closed, he worked for several years at Tote in Lenox, lowa. In November of 1976, Dwight and Marilyn moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas, where they had purchased a new home. On May 18, 1977, they closed on the purchase of their new home in Rogers, Arkansas. Dwight worked for what is now known as Kennametal Corporation, as the Company went through several name changes. He worked there for over 38 years before he retired at the age of 80.
In 2013, Dwight and Marilyn joined the Church of Christ in Garfield, Arkansas.
Dwight and Marilyn have traveled to all seven Continents. They have traveled to Europe over 30 times, seeing many different countries, to South America several times, to Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Tahiti and Moorea in the South Pacific, and several times to the Caribbean. In January of 2024, they traveled around Cape Horn in South America and on to Antarctica. In September of 2024, they traveled to Cape Town, South Africa, touring several countries, Krueger National Park and Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Some of the great memories were the dog sled rides and driving a sleigh pulled by reindeer in Finland, taking a train ride in Ushuaia, Argentina, to the end of the world, the safaris and feeding Jumbo, the 5 ton elephant, in Africa, and the beauty of the Arctic Circle and Antarctica.
Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Oliver Mothershead, and sister-in-law, Mary Mothershead.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn, of 59 years, one sister, Evelyn Lyles and husband, Kenneth, of Deer Park, Washington, and several nieces and nephews and their families in Iowa and Washington.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 3rd from 3:00-4:00PM at Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers, Arkansas, with funeral service immediately to follow at 4:00PM.
Another visitation will be held on Saturday, July 5th from 1:00-2:00PM at Cummings Funeral Home in Bedford, Iowa, with funeral service immediately to follow at 2:00PM. Burial to follow at Washington Cemetery in Gravity, Iowa.
