James was born to Bernard Donald Schuetz and Mary Kay Rotz. He never married and had no children, but family was an important part of his life.
James proudly served in the National Guard. He had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel and experience new places. His travels took him as far as the Virgin Islands and Guam, where he worked and made memories along the way.
An avid outdoorsman, James enjoyed hunting and fishing. But one of his greatest loves was riding his prized Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He especially enjoyed riding with his best friend and cousin, Doug Schuetz. The open road, good company, and adventure were a perfect reflection of James and the life he loved.
James is survived by his mother, Sharon Schuetz of Topeka, Kansas; his father, William Freitag of Bella Vista, Arkansas; and his sisters, Jill Lewis (David) of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Sherri Israel (Roger) of Parksville, Missouri; Patty Bordewick (Kevin) of Topeka, Kansas; Vicki Schweinler (Kurt) of Emporia, Kansas; and Lori Lowrey (Larry) of Rogers, Arkansas. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles, extended family members, and friends who will miss him dearly.
James will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, his love of the outdoors, his passion for motorcycles, and the many places and experiences that made his life unique. He leaves behind memories of a life lived with a sense of adventure and a love for the open road.
A service celebrating James’s life will be held on November 21, 2026, in Horton, Kansas. He will be laid to rest at Mercier Cemetery in Mercier, Kansas.
May James’s final ride be on an open road, with blue skies above and the wind at his back.
