John Albert Creech

February 14, 1937August 21, 2018

John Albert Creech, age 81, of La Verne, California, passed away peacefully from cardiac complications on Tuesday, Aug. 21, at Arcadia Methodist Hospital in the company of his family and loved ones. John was born in 1937 in Rogers, Arkansas, and attended Rogers High School and the Kansas City Art Institute on an art scholarship, before serving in the United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton and 29 Palms. He was a loving husband and father, fine artist, businessman, and storyteller. He loved life and people and the world around him. To John, beauty was everywhere, from the Hawaiian Islands to the Mojave Desert to the streets and people of South El Monte. Art was his joy and passion and his paintings were recognized in numerous exhibitions and galleries. His watercolor painting tribute to the memory of those at the Manzanar Internment Camp in the eastern High Sierras was an official selection of the National Arts In the Parks annual art competition. His tribute to the historic U.S. Route 66 in a series of paintings and accompanying essay was the profiled in Southwest Art Magazine. His company Arcwood was a pioneer in the field of curved wood furniture and in the early mass production of high-end skateboards for companies like Hobie. He attended ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena to continue his art education, as well as numerous workshops. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his many grandchildren and friends in San Dimas, California. He was the son of Everett and Juanita Creech and brother to Wanda, Donald Joe, Billy Charles, Maybeth, and Gary. He was the father of three children, Lori, Jennifer, and Steve, with his first wife, Janet; step father to Agnes, Rose, and Pauleen, with his second wife, the late Aileen Creech; and devoted grandfather to Corey, Cody, Andy, Brendan, Brianna, Alex, Joey, Sasha, Andy, and his littlest ones, Will, Preston, and Xavier. He was the proud friend of his sons-in-law, Frank Scardino, Chuck Hilton, and Eric Atkinson, and his daughter-in-law Alison Creech, who were at his side, and companion in later life to Narcia Parker of Rogers, Arkansas. The families would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Arcadia Methodist Hospital for their kindness and compassion and to the many friends of our father who loved him. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, Sept. 1, at Rollins Funeral Home, Rogers, Ark, near John’s childhood home.
