Joseph A. Oberto, 96 of Rogers, AR and formerly of Pensacola, FL passed away October 29 following a short illness after a good life. At the age of 15, he immigrated from his birthplace of Locana, Italy arriving at Ellis Island knowing no English and holding a “Destination- Red Lodge, Montana” sign. He embraced his new country quickly learning the language and gaining his US citizenship. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp before enlisting in the US Army Air Corp. And he enjoyed a long career with AT&T as a cable repairman and supervisor. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his children Joe Oberto, Betty Oberto and Bill Oberto; 3 granddaughters; 1 grandson and 4 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Maria Oberto and both of his wives- Elizabeth Oberto in 1991 and his wife Helen in 2011. A Funeral will be held at 10am Friday, November 1, 2013 at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel in Rogers. A Burial will be in Fayetteville National Cemetery.
