Kerry Lou Ozment, 72, of Bentonville, Arkansas, was born on January 3, 1953, in Longview, Texas, famously known as the first baby of the year in Longview. She peacefully departed this life on October 16, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.
Kerry was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Elmo and Lillian Crocker, her brother Robert Lee Crocker, and her sister-in-law Vickie Crocker.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 54 years, David Ozment; her son, Jeffery Lee Ozment; her daughter, Jamie Cockerham, and son-in-law Byron Cockerham; as well as her cherished granddaughters, Bailey, Taylor, Jordan, and grandson Braden. Kerry also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and many close family friends. Her greatest joy was being near her grandchildren.
A passionate traveler, Kerry enjoyed reconnecting with old friends in the various towns where she and her family lived. David’s career at Swepco/AEP took the family on many adventures, each move bringing the opportunity to make lasting friendships.
Kerry met her soulmate David on a blind date in the summer of 1969, leading to their marriage on July 2, 1971. Their relationship was characterized by love and harmony, as she often remarked that they never had a serious argument.
In her professional life, Kerry served as one of the first secretaries for the Rogers United Fund and worked with the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce in the 1980s. While she found fulfillment in her career, her family always came first, and she skillfully balanced her work commitments with her role as a devoted homemaker during the kids' formative years.
Raised in a strong Christian family, Kerry was the spiritual anchor for her family throughout their many relocations. She consistently sought out new church homes, Sunday School classes, and community groups, fostering a sense of belonging. Although not formal members, her family has actively participated in various community groups since returning to Northwest Arkansas in 2003.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Best Friends Resource Center in Northwest Arkansas, located at 1312 Melissa Drive, Bentonville, AR 72712, to honor Kerry's passion for helping animals.
