With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Lauretta Engstrom Lyster, on Saturday, December 9th, 2023. Born in Princeton, Illinois, to Roy Engstrom and Emma Swanson Engstrom, Lauretta's journey was one of resilience, grace, and unwavering love.
From surviving scarlet fever during the Great Depression to her contributions during World War II, Lauretta's strength and spirit shone brightly. Her involvement in church, singing, cheerleading, and writing enriched not only her life but also those around her.
Lauretta's life took a joyous turn when she married Dr. Sturgis Cameron Lyster on June 19, 1949. She was a pillar of support, balancing her role as a working mom while helping her husband through medical school. Her four children, Kris, Kevin, Karol, and Kim, were her pride and joy, and nurturing them became her greatest legacy. Lauretta created a home filled with love, laughter, and the magic of family traditions.
Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds, and her deep faith was the foundation of our loving family. Lauretta's hobbies included painting, reading, and writing poems, all of which she shared with her family. The love between our parents was a beautiful testament to their commitment to each other and to us.
Lauretta is survived by 4 children, 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, extended family members and dear friends who brought her immense joy.
Preceded in death by her parents, Roy Engstrom and Emma Swanson Engstrom; her brothers Earl, Leroy, Searle and Irvin Engstrom; and her beloved husband, Dr. Sturgis Cameron Lyster. Lauretta's life was a beautiful melody of love, faith, and kindness. We will forever carry her legacy in our hearts. A date for the memorial and celebration of life will be announced.
