Born on November 19, 1935, Leland lived a life marked by faith, hard work, kindness, and loving devotion to his wife of 22 years, Letha.
He reconnected with Letha (Lutz) Townsley in 2000 after having been teenage friends attending Bible School in Oklahoma in 1953. In 2001, they joyfully married and shared a special love that endures even now after Letha’s passing in 2022. No one loved her like he did and he was the joy of her later life, never failing to express his love through devoted actions and lots of flowers!
Leland proudly served his country as an Army veteran and carried that same spirit of dedicated service into becoming a fireman in Enid, Oklahoma. He retired in 2000 as a Fire Captain. He witnessed many horrific accidents as a first responder, yet his faith in Jesus Christ was unwavering through it all. He always maintained a good sense of humor while enjoying playing pranks on those close to him. Jumping out from under the bed to scare his wife maybe went a little too far, however. Letha did survive the panic once he resuscitated her as any good fireman would do.
Leland was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Jackson Davis and Sarah Isabelle (Pope) Davis and his beloved wife, Letha Fern Townsley-Davis, whom he now rejoins in Heaven. He is survived by his brother, James Davis; sister, Phyllis Little and husband Buddy all of Warner, Oklahoma; his stepsons, Gary N. Townsley (Debbie) of Mount Vernon, Missouri, Dan L. Townsley (Felecia), and Ken W. Townsley of Rogers, Arkansas; along with eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren and many cherished friends.
Leland will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to those he loved, his quiet strength, his caring heart, his funny humor, and the lasting impact he made on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
