Raymond Leo "Ray" Voorheis

July 11, 1930January 7, 2019

Raymond Leo “Ray” Voorheis, 88, of Rogers went home to be with his Savior January 7, 2019, surrounded by his family. The longtime El Paso, Texas resident was born to Leon Voorheis and Selma Kunze Voorheis on July 11, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He moved to El Paso in his late teenage years, where he married the love of his life, Emma Elizabeth Wright on March 7, 1952. The El Paso community was extremely important to Ray, as he served in the National Guard Reserve from 1950 until 1957 and officiated for the El Paso Livestock Show and Rodeo for many years. He worked as an accountant at Chevron and sat on the board of the Chevron Federal Credit Union until his retirement in September, 1996. His quiet faith in Christ was demonstrated in all that he did; he was a member of Ysleta Methodist Church in El Paso and then Fellowship Bible Church in Rogers after relocating with his wife to Arkansas in January, 2009. Ray and Beth were actively involved in the Rogers Adult Wellness Center, and they made many close friendships there. As an avid sports fan, Ray watched any game, his favorite teams be the Dallas Cowboys and the UTEP Miners. His family was always his priority, and he often said his deepest desire was to see all of his grandchildren grow up. As such, he is survived by his living legacy: Beth, his wife of 66 years; his sister, Sharon Lawson of Kingman, Arizona; his son, Philip Voorheis and wife Ellen of Las Cruces, New Mexico; his daughter, Callie Whaley and husband Steve of Rogers; his daughter-in-law, Raquel Paquian of El Paso; grandchildren Chloe Voorheis, Brittany Chavez, Luke Voorheis, Cooper Whaley and Harper Whaley, as well as those whom Ray loved like his own grandchildren including Gilbert Paquian, Marky Rodriguez, Ashleigh Whaley, Mayo Whaley, Adrian Chavez, Bethany Whaley and Maddy Whaley. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Paul Voorheis and his beloved son, Jim-Tom Voorheis. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762 or on their website Ray’s Memorial Service will be at 11:00am, Saturday, January 19, 2019 in the Chapel of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers. I did not have the pleasure of knowing Mr. Voorheis but I was blessed with the friendship of one of his children, Callie, during one of the most difficult times in my life. My prayers and sympathy go out to Callie and the Voorheis family. God's Blessings to the Voorheis Family.
