Ronald was born in Sac City, Iowa, in 1946 to Wilbur Carl Wunschel and Wilma Nelson. He nobly served in the United States Army, awarded with the National Defense Service Medal Sharpshooter, Marksman (Rifle) then launched into his career avenues of contracting, maintenance, mechanical, and the longevity of volunteering.
In a short summary, Ronald was a very generous man. He has always been known as a “helper” to others. Ronald was feisty to say the least and had an utmost determination that could drive you up a wall, but with his quick wit and humor you would be laughing in no time. He loved working outside with gardening, or refinishing furniture in his garage, along with dedicating his time to volunteering. Ron was a volunteer at Helping Hands for almost 30 years and was a permanent fixture in the furniture department. In addition, he served on their church board and Executive Committee for more than 20 years. We couldn’t have asked for a better father and Papa, as his granddaughter, Ava was his pride and joy. Ronald’s memory will live on in the hearts of all of those who loved him.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Linda.
He is survived by three brothers, Gary, Randy, and Wes Wunschel; one sister, Judy Wunschel; one son, Brian Wunschel; one daughter, Nicole Bowers; and one grandchild, Ava Bowers.
We will be honoring Ronald’s life at the Fayetteville National Military Cemetery, October 6, 2023 at 1:30pm.
