

He served in the US Marine Corps and later joined the Arkansas Army National Guard where he served with the First Battalion of the 142nd Fires Brigade and was an Operation Iraqi Freedom Veteran. He was Special Ops Duty Director for Global Operations Division International Services, and was a life member of the VFW Post 3031.
Shannon was a police officer in Lanagan, Missouri, and was a jailer at the Benton County Jail. He was also a firefighter, having served with Lanagan, Missouri, Avoca, Johnson and Rogers (Highway 94) Fire Departments. Most recently, he was a loss-prevention security officer with Wal-Mart.
Survivors include his wife, Valerie Coonfield and their children, Kaitlyn and Joshua; a daughter, Katelynn Bordwell of Washington; mother, Connie Winters and husband Johnnie of Fayetteville; father, Everett Coonfield of Springdale; brother, Michael Coonfield and wife Jennifer of Farmington; and nephew, Payton Coonfield.
Graveside memorial services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at Fayetteville National Cemetery. A celebration of Shannon’s life will immediately follow at the VFW, Post 3031, near Avoca.
