Terry Zalabak, 68, died Thursday, Nov. 7, 2014. Born Aug. 14, 1946, to Joseph and Eleanor Zalabak of Rogers and Chicago. Originally from Chicago, she moved New York City where she lived for more than 40 years, and then to Rogers to care for her mother. In Rogers she became an active member of Rogers Friends of the Library, the Mockingbird Moon community of knitters, and the Mercy Hospital rehabilitation community. Terry was extraordinary: a wordsmith, book lover, writer, knitter, chef, arts devotee, passionate scrabbler player, and one of the best storytellers on earth.
She was preceded in death by her siblings, Penny and Billy and by her father and mother, Joseph and Eleanor. She is survived by four sisters and three brothers-in-law: Deborah Lengsas of Georgia, Beth and Jerry Carnes of Rogers, Marisa Zalabak and Randy Thompson of New York, and Polly Ann and Frank Martin of Tennessee; six nieces and nephews: Sarah, Andrew, Evan and his wife Melissa, Thea, Zachary, and Mary Elizabeth; three great-nieces and nephews: Cameron, Abigail, and Lizzie; and her beloved cousins Christyne, Kathy, and Michael Forti.
A celebration of her life will be held on Monday, Nov. 10, 5-7 p.m. at her home. Terry made friends everywhere she went and all friends, old and new, are invited to celebrate her life with her family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rogers Public Library Foundation. Arrangements are under the care of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.
