
Arthur Lee Donahue, Jr., 90, of Rome, passed away on May 14, 2011, at Redmond Hospital, following an extended illness. He was born on July 14, 1920, in Baltimore, Maryland and was the son of the late Arthur Lee Donahue, Sr., and Goldie Grace Cook Donahue.
Mr. Donahue was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rome. He served in the United States Army during World War II and received numerous Medals of Honor.
He was self-employed and owned several restaurant supply businesses in Rome and Cedartown before he was forced to retire due to failing health.
Survivors include his son, Arthur Lee Donahue, III (Al) and his wife Kathy of Rome; daughters Trudy Donahue Green of Powder Springs, Georgia; Marty Donahue Cagle and her husband Brad of Cartersville, Georgia; and Missy Donahue Massey and her husband Andy of Newnan, Georgia . Grandchildren : Arthur Lee Donahue, IV (Lee) and his wife Mary of Rome; Corey Green of Memphis, Tennessee; Jamey Green of Powder Springs, Georgia; Jay Cagle of Manlius, New York; Ally Cagle of Cartersville, Georgia; Drew Massey of Newnan, Georgia; and two great- grandsons, Arthur Lee Donahue, V (Lee) and Davis Donahue of Rome. Also surviving is a sister, Pollye Donahue Heavner and her husband Joe of West Columbia, South Carolina, and a number of nieces and nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Brady Green on September 7, 2009; his sisters, Betty Jane Donahue Mitchell and Tamsey Donahue Thomas; brothers, Robert E. Donahue and Jack A. Donahue, who also passed away on May 14, 2011 in South Carolina.
A funeral service for Mr. Donahue will be held Sunday, May 22, 2011, at 2 p.m. in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Dr. Floyd Roebuck and Dr. Joel Snider officiating. Interment will follow at Floyd Memory Gardens with the Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post No. 5 of the American Legion in charge of military rites.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour at Daniel’s. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Heyman Hospice Care, P. O. Box 163, Rome, GA 30162-0163.
