
Mr. Elkin was born on June 11, 1939, in Columbia, SC, and was the husband of Norma Powell Elkin and the son of Christine Welch Elkin and the late Ben Allen Elkin, Sr. Mr. Elkin was a graduate of Clemson University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Mr. Elkin was a mechanical engineer with Georgia Power for over 26 years, and then was physical plant director for Berry College for seven years. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and had his Professional Engineering License. He was also a member of the ASHRAE Society and the Construction Industry Association of Rome. He attended Transfiguration Episcopal Church.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Powell Elkin, to whom he was married May 21, 1960; one son, Christopher J. Elkin, and his wife, Dawn-Monique, San Ramon, CA; one daughter, Amy Holcombe and her fiancé, Ralph Haschke, Gainesville; his mother, Christine Welch Elkin, Columbia, SC; four grandchildren, Benjamin Ryan Holcombe, Dakota Justin Elkin, Avery Christopher Elkin and Sage Margaret Elkin; and two sisters, Barbara Lane Heller Crumbo, and her husband, Charles, Columbia, SC, and Deta Camp Culley, Lexington, SC.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 11, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home, Rome, with Dr. James Van Dyke officiating. Interment will be in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Elkin, Ralph Haschke, Ryan Holcombe, David Culp, John Pillsbury, Joseph Humphrey, Carl B. McMillan and Terry Greer.
The family will receive friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 10, 2011, from 6 until 8 p.m.
