
Mrs. Whitten was born in LaGrange on June 18, 1921, the daughter of the late Ora Foster Chipman and Alfred Chipman. She was a graduate of Tech High School in Memphis, TN, and completed the CPS (Certified Professional Secretary) Program at Memphis State University.
Mrs. Whitten’s working career included Hunter Fan Company, the Cotton Board in Memphis and the City of Memphis. After working for several years at Schlitz Brewing Company in Memphis, she retired as the Hospitality Manager at the Schlitz Belle. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Whitten, in 2001. She was a member of the Garden Lakes Baptist Church and the West End Homemakers Club.
She is survived by one daughter, Wanda J. Whitten, Rome; a step-sister, Mrs. Margie Guy, Manchester; two cousins in Atlanta; and several nieces and nephews.
She cherished her Macon Road Presbyterian friends in Memphis and her West Rome Baptist Church Sunday School Class as well as her Memphis buddies and retired CPS friends, “The Golden Girls.”
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Friday, November 25, 2011, from 5 until 7 p.m., and in Memphis at Memorial Park Funeral Home on Saturday, November 26, from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. CST. A graveside service followed in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis at 2:30 p.m. CST.
