
Dr. Burk was born on February 21, 1930, in Snyder, Texas, the son of the late Charlie R. Burk and Ida Jane Clause Burk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters. He was a graduate of McMurry College in 1951 and received his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School.
He retired from the U. S. Army in 1976 and moved to Rome where he was associated with the North Georgia OB/GYN Clinic. He retired from private practice from Northwest Georgia Medical OB/GYN Clinic. He was a member and attended the First Baptist Church of Rome. He served as a member of the board at Floyd Medical Center and was also a member of several medical organizations. He loved to play golf and was a great family man.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra Sue Burk; Bryan Burk (Marci), Salt Lake City, UT, Jerry Light (Flo), New Braunfels, TX, Reed Burk, Jacksonville, TX, Kelli Light Bishop (Tom), Alabaster, AL, Joy Burk Howard (John), Rome, and Robin Burk (Lyn Harris), Chattanooga, TN; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Rome with Dr. Joel Snider officiating.
The family received friends in the sanctuary following the service. Memorial contributions may be sent to the First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 1189, Rome, GA 30162-1189.
