Catherine Nell Maynard

Catherine Nell Maynard, 96, of Rome, Georgia, passed away on September 13, 2026. Born January 10, 1930, in Trion, GA, Catherine was the daughter of William Oliver Jenkins and Lillie Mae Tibbs Jenkins. She moved to Rome at the age of seven, a place that would remain her home and the center of a life marked by steady devotion to others.

On August 4, 1946, Catherine married Lucian Perry Maynard Jr. They shared 72 years of marriage at the time of his passing on October 28, 2018—years shaped by partnership and family.

Catherine was preceded in death by six brothers; a beloved stepsister, Eva Jo Williams; and a daughter-in-law, Wilma Greer Maynard.

She is survived by her four children, all of Rome, GA: Lucian Perry Maynard III, Anthony Terry Maynard, Marie Alaina Maynard, and Timothy Kerry Maynard Sr. (Karen). She is also survived by four grandchildren: Timothy Kerry Maynard Jr. (Caitlin) of Winder, Kristofer Perry Maynard (Jenny) of Lindale, Melissa Sherry Maynard of Rome, and Rita Catherine Nolan (Wade) of LaGrange; and by her great-grandchildren Will Maynard of Winder, Eli Nolan of LaGrange, Ian Nolan of LaGrange, and Ansley Nolan of LaGrange. Catherine is further survived by her beloved sister Shirley Dean of Lindale, GA; her dear friend and caregiver Diane Ledbetter; and several nieces and nephews.

A nurse by calling as well as by profession, Catherine served for 36 years at Floyd Medical Center as an RN in nursing services and as the Associate Director of Nursing. She earned her nursing degree from Georgia State University, and throughout her career she carried herself with the calm competence and dignity that patients and colleagues never forget. Even in retirement, her commitment to service continued: she volunteered with the Red Cross, The Salvation Army, and Heyman Hospice, and concluded her volunteer work after 21 years with Harbin Clinic—years that reflected a life guided by purpose and generous attention to the needs of others.

Catherine’s deepest joys were found close to home: food, family, music, and painting. Her creativity and careful eye live on in the many paintings she left behind—works that still hang in the homes of family and friends, offering daily reminders of her warmth and the beauty she made with her own hands. She was an active member of Primrose Rd. Church of Christ, where her faith and steady presence were part of the fabric of the congregation.

Visitation will be held at Daniel's Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 901 East 2nd Ave, Rome, GA 30161, on September 18, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at Daniel's Funeral Home and Cremation Service on September 18, 2026, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. A Committal Service will take place at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens, 69 Church St NE, Rome, GA 30161, on September 18, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 3:00 pm.

Serving as pallbearers are Ken Futch, Tommy Callan, Jonathan Nicholson, Kenny Cox, Drew Molock, and Wade Nolan. Honorary pallbearers include Will Maynard, Eli Nolan, Ian Nolan, and Ansley Nolan.
