

Dr. Danny Nevin Davis aged 79, passed away November 18, 2025 while receiving hospice care at Brookdale University Park Skilled Nursing in Birmingham, AL. He was the youngest child of Nevin B. Davis and Frances L. Davis. Danny was born August 11, 1946 in Rome, Georgia. After graduating from Pepperell High School he attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia graduating in 1968 with a BS in Physics. Danny married Jennifer J. Spies in 1969. In 1973, he welcomed a daughter, Emily Davis Mixon, while attending the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL where he completed a Masters degree in Mathematics in 1974 and a PhD in Mathematics in 1978. In 1976 Danny and his family returned to Rome, GA and he began his teaching career at Shorter College. During his many years at Shorter he was awarded accolades for his teaching and he took great pride in his students and their successes. He was a professor at Shorter College in the Math Department until he retired in 2012. In retirement, Danny had time to devote to other creative interests. He was an avid reader, enjoying various genres. His interest in literature led to the writing and publishing of several books of his own. All of his writing focused on the importance of family and understanding our place in the world. He was a source of stability, humor, and love for so many. He found immense joy in his family and was deeply devoted to those he loved. Danny will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.
Danny is preceded in death by his wife, Jennifer J. Davis. Survivors include his daughter Emily Davis Mixon (Michael), grandchildren Lillian F. Donaldson (Tyler), and Alexander M. Mixon, his brother Joseph C. Davis (Susan) of Powder Springs, GA, brother-in-law Arthur Spies (Mary Jane) of Ankeny, IA, brother-in-law Harold W. Spies Jr. of Beaumont, TX and sister-in-law Susan Reinhart (Roger) of Fargo, ND, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are cordially invited to a visitation on Saturday, January 10, 2026 from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM with a Celebration of Life ceremony directly following at Daniels Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association for the advancement of Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
