

Danny was born on August 26, 1945, in Earle, Arkansas, son of the late Wilbur Harris and the late Mary Williams Harris. Danny was preceded in death by his brother James Harris, Jr. and his sister Dorothy Robnolt. Danny is survived by his wife Jane H. Harris; his sons, Michael and Marc Harris both of Hanover, Indiana; Jane's daughter Laura Lambert of Acworth, Georgia; four grandchildren; as well as his siblings: brothers Charles Harris (Susan) of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Glenn Harris of Galveston, Texas, and his sister Deborah Gordon of Grove, Oklahoma; a nephew, nieces and cousins and Jack, his dog.
Danny served his country as a Forward Observer with the 1st Infantry Division in the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged in 1971 as a 1st Lieutenant. While serving in Vietnam, Danny was awarded three Bronze Star medals.
Danny graduated from Arkansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Master in Rehabilitation Counseling. He retired from Arkansas Rehabilitation Services in 2001 after a 30 year career as a vocational rehabilitation counselor and district manager serving eastern Arkansas. Although an Arkansas native, he lived in Indiana, Texas, and Georgia after retiring. He enjoyed woodworking, deer hunting, participating in running events, daily crossword puzzles and cryptograms. He also tutored for the English as a Second Language program through Georgia Northwestern Technical College.
A memorial service will be held at the Georgia National Cemetery, 2025 Mount Carmel Church Lane, Canton, Georgia 30114, Friday, March 31, 2017 at Two-Thirty in the afternoon with Reverend Lee Smollar officiating. The American Legion Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 Honor Guard of Rome, Georgia will render military rites. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests memorial contributions to be made to St. Jude Research Hospital, 22 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105, or Compassionate Paws 2501 Callier Springs Road SE, Rome, Georgia 30161.
