Mr. Gernaey was born in Royal Oak, Michigan November 8, 1950, son of the late John Edward Gernaey and June Merlene Webster Gernaey. He was also preceded in death by one brother.
He served in the United States Marine Corps. He was very active with the Greater Rome Georgia Young Marines, and was a friend to everyone. He was one of 10 children and was raised by Dorothy Hefferon.
Survivors include his wife; Jacquelyn R. Gernaey of Rome, two sons; David Alan Gernaey, Jr of Cadillac, Michigan, Dennis Edward Gernaey and his wife Amanda of Lafayette, TN, one stepson; Thomas Carrico, Jr, of Michigan, one daughter: June Elizabeth Gernaey of Lafayette, TN., one step daughter; Renee Francine Carrico of Ypsilanti, Michigan, and 6 brothers and 3 sisters.
A memorial service for Mr. Gernaey will be conducted by the family at a later date.
