

Many friends, grandchildren, and caregivers affectionately called Mrs. Johnson, "Grandmommy" and "Mrs. J" in her later years. Jean was born in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on June 15, 1930. The daughter of the late William Aren Brown and Edith Norton Gaffney Brown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wesley Frost Johnson, and by her sister, Patsy Ann Brown Bledsoe, of St. Simon's Island, Georgia.
Growing up, Mrs. Johnson lived in various cities due to the work transfers of her father with Southern Railway. Included, but not limited to, were Atlanta and Toccoa, Georgia, New Orleans, Louisiana, and Knoxville, Tennessee. She graduated from John McDonogh High School on Esplanade Avenue and Southwestern Business College, both in New Orleans. Mrs. Johnson married Wesley Frost Johnson at Capital View Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, Georgia on June 26, 1949. Living in Atlanta, GA she worked for Spratlin, Harrington and Company until the move to Rome, Georgia in 1955 due to Wesley's transfer with Georgia Power Company. From then on, she devoted her life to her family and volunteering in the Rome-Floyd community. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Rome, Georgia.

Greater Rome Chamber of Commerce- was the first woman elected by the membership to the board of directors and over the years served the chamber on various boards. For several years, she served as chairman of the Christmas in Rome Committee.
Charter member of the Floyd Medical Center Auxiliary (Pink Ladies). As a volunteer held various offices (president, Parliamentarian, etc.), was director of the Youth Volunteers and the Candy Stripe Teen Program for 25 years, was manager of the "Hole in the Wall" FMC Thrift Shop for many years, served as Interim Director of Volunteers for several years, among other positions.
Georgia Hospital Association Council on Auxiliaries served as District Director and several terms as President.
Rome Symphony Debutante Ball Treasurer for 25 years
Rome Symphony Women's Association held various positions.
Dogwood Ball Chair and Steering Committee for numerous years
Served on board of directors of the Rome Area Heritage Foundation and Chiaha Guild of Arts and Crafts/
The National Creative Society created the Wesley and Jean Johnson National Creative Society Scholarship.
Georgia Society of Professional Engineers served as Vice President.
Coosa Valley Fair Homemaking Arts and Crafts division coordinator for many years.
Rome Jaycettes (Junior Chamber of Commerce Women's Association) was a member and held various positions.
Cancer Society supporter and volunteer.
West Rome High School supporter served as coordinator of bake sales, Chieftain Acts, band booster, and parent.
Appointed Rome and Floyd County neighborhood chairman of the Northwest Georgia Girl Scouts Council.
She was the owner of Silkworks of Rome for 30 years, providing silk arrangements for Floyd Medical Center Gift Shop and other small shops.

She is survived by her children, Judith Ann Johnson Frasure (Ray Alan) of Rome, GA and William Wesley Johnson (Tammy Sligar) of Jasper, GA; her grandchildren, Thomas Johnson Frasure of Rome, GA
Jeremy Le Smith of Enfield, CT, Jesse Lynn Smith of Foley, AL, Caroline Jean Johnson of Woodstock, GA, E. Nicole Johnson Beckman (Andrew) of Chattanooga, TN, Priscilla Rose Johnson of Jasper, GA, Charles Lucas Johnson of Jasper, GA, and Logan Sligar of Austin,TX; her great grandchildren, Scottie Sligar of Austin,TX and Stetson Sligar of Austin,TX.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at Daniel's Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in the Chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home at 2:00 pm on Thursday, January 9, 2025 with Rev. Jonathan Schwartz officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Jeremy Le Smith, Thomas Johnson Frasure, John Wesley Wright, William Patrick Smith, and Andrew Bernard Beckman.
