
Mrs. Eleanor Lanell "Nell" Cowart Murphy, age 85, of Rome, GA, died May 2, 2016 at Floyd Medical Center. Mrs. Murphy was born in Cartersville, Georgia, May 25, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Clarence H. Cowart and Maxie Bailey Cowart. She was also preceded in death by her sister Marzelle Cowart Luke.
A graduate of Cartersville High School, Mrs. Murphy went on to complete her degrees at Georgia State College for Women in Home Economics and Tift College in Elementary Education. She married William E. Murphy in 1954 and remained his precious bride for the 62 years of their wedded courtship. Mrs. Murphy, an elementary school educator for many years, loved children and the process of encouraging, teaching, and guiding them. She enjoyed her family, friends, animals and flowers. She was an active and faithful member of the United Methodist Church. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Mr. Ed Murphy of Rome, Georgia, her only and much cherished son, Ken Murphy and his wife Amy of Franklin, North Carolina; Grandsons, Christopher Murphy and his wife Kelli of Decatur, Georgia; Kevin Murphy and his wife Rachel of Boca Raton, Florida; and niece, Donna Luke Sands and her husband Stan of Atlanta, Georgia.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 10 am to 12 noon on Friday, May 6, 2016. A private graveside service was held with Rev. Beth Sanders officiating.
