

Mr. Stewart was born May 7, 1944, in Rome, Georgia, to Ernest Lester Stewart and Quillie Rhyne Stewart. He graduated from East Rome High School in 1962 and received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Kennesaw State College. He joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned to serve on the USS Proteus in Guam.
After discharge from the Navy, Mr. Stewart worked as a helicopter mechanic for several companies across the U.S. including a position as Director of Maintenance for a helicopter commuter airline in Atlanta. In 1984, he was hired at Lockheed Martin in Marietta and retired in 2004 as Supply Chain Manager. Mr. Stewart was also a member of the National Management Association and the Society of Logistics Engineers.
He married Anita, his high school sweetheart in 1985. They traveled all over the world after their retirement and volunteered with several organizations. He enjoyed working on cars, spending time with family, hiking, backpacking and riding his motorcycle.
Mr. Stewart was a faithful member of Trinity by the River Global Church and the Koinonia Sunday School Class. He served as a mentor to young people, and in 2006 Mr. Stewart was awarded the COVA Community Award for his work with older citizens, helping them with their health choices for Medicare and Medicaid.
He is survived by his wife, Anita Merryman Stewart and three children, Emmett Stewart and his wife, Elena, of Malta, Andrew Fountain of Atlanta, Georgia, and Jason Stewart of Cartersville, Georgia. He leaves five grandchildren, Evan Stewart and Claudio Stewart of Malta, Andre Fountain and Adrian Fountain of Atlanta, and Alex Winslow of Dawsonville, Georgia. Also surviving is his sister, Elizabeth Stewart Rose and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Kevin Lobello will officiate the memorial service at Trinity by the River, a Global Methodist Church. The service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be 10:00 – 11:00 prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests donations be made to Trinity by the River, Rome, Georgia.
