

Gennette was born on February 26, 1924 in Cherokee County AL as the eighth child and second daughter born to Andrew Seafus Tucker and Effie Hill Tucker Bradshaw. Of the family of eighteen children Gennette is preceded by death by Garvin, Grover, Grady, Gus Gertrude Gardie, Garnett, Gartril, Glover, Geraldine, Geneva, Gremlin(Zack), and Geroma Tucker, Margaret and Jo Lee Bradfield. Gennette was educated in the Cherokee and Floyd County schools. Gennette attended night school in Miami FL to continue her education. She graduated from the Carol Lynn School of Business, Rome. As a young teen Gennette lived at Berryhill and sang with her family for numerous functions and dignitaries at the Berry Schools. Gennette was married to George Willis Swinford on October 10, 1941 who preceded her in death on May 17, 2009. George and Gennette lived in Miami FL after marriage where George was called to serve his country and Gennette worked as a floral designer to support their home. Gennette saved every penny of the Army pay with which they started their first real home and business in Rome GA. George and Gennette owned and operated George's Service Center, George's Marine, and George's Recreation from 1953 until their retirement in the early 1980's At retirement the divided their time between their homes in Rome and Naples FL. Gennette was a faithful member of West Rome Baptist Church for 78 years. She served in numerous church capacities in the children's ministries, the women's ministries, and sang in the Church Choir for most of her adult life. Gennette attended West Rome regularly until two months ago being a member of the Ruth Sunday School class. Gennette continued her Bible study until her death. Gennette was charter member of the Thistle Garden Club Rome and continued to be active for many years.
Gennette is survived by a daughter, Regina Bishop of Rome GA and a son Byron Swinford(Janice) of Rome GA. Two sisters survive, Genoka Parker McSwain,Rome GA and Gevelma Parker(JW), Warm Springs GA. A step brother James (Ann) Bradfield, Rome survives. Grandchildren surviving (9) include Jennifer Layton, Atlanta, Stephanie Bishop Collum(Jimmy) Rockmart, Andrea Gail Wagley(Scott) Marietta, Neil Bishop, Adairsville, Carrie Bishop, Augusta, Michael Bishop, Rome, Allison Rogers(Jeff). Rome, Andrea Pardon (Jamie), Rome and Drew Swinford (fiancée Lauren) Kennesaw. Thirteen great-grandchildren survive. Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews survive.
Funeral services for Gennette Swinford will be conducted at 1:00PM Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at West Rome Baptist Church with the Reverend Ken Oates officiating. Music will be provided by Marshall Woods. Interment will be at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens immediately following the service. Daniels Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Gennette Swinford. The family will receive friends from 11:00AM until 1:00 PM before the funeral time.
Flowers were a part of Gennette's life and will be received. Other contributions may be made to the building fund at West Rome Baptist Church.
Pall bearers will be the grandchildren. Neil Bishop, Michael Bishop, Jimmy Collum, Drew Swinford, Scott Wagley, Jamie Pardon, and Jeff Rogers will serve actively.
