Mr. Cato was born to a pioneer Rome family on December 9, 1925 the son of George C. Cato and Winfred Seery Cato. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maretta “Biddy” Buder Cato on March 2, 2012. They were married on July 13, 1956.
Mr. Cato retired after 35 years from the Carolina Freight Corporation as North Georgia District Sales Manager. He graduated from Darlington School in 1942, and attended Loyola University, New Orleans, LA, and the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and had served as an usher, lector and as an altar boy as a youth. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U. S. Navy.
He is survived by his daughters, Suzan Cato, Christina Flowers (Greg), Seery Cato (Robert), and Rosamond Ramsey; and granddaughters, Neely Vaughn, Chelsea Digsby and Maria Flowers.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, February 1, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Patrick Kingery and Deacon Stuart Neslin officiating. Interment will be in the Myrtle Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends in the Parish Hall at St. Mary’s Catholic Church on Friday following the funeral mass.
