

A longtime resident of Floyd County, Mr. Tant was born on April 6, 1959, in Marietta, GA, son of Frank M. Tant and the late Leila Mae Smith Tant. As a teenager, Grady attended Cass High School in Cartersville then moved to Michigan where he earned his Eagle Scout. He and his family returned to Rome where he graduated from high school. Following high school Grady, attend and graduated from Shorter College with a bachelor’s degree. Grady had several passions in life, but the few that stand out were firefighting, motorcycles and being a business owner. Mr. Tant was a well-established business man, owning a tax service and currently Tant Enterprises, where he was an abstractor. He dedicated over 20 years as a firefighter in Rome, Smyrna and Lockheed, as well as served as a volunteer in Bartow County. He shared his passion for love of the open road and riding his Harley with his wife, Sandra. He was member of the SCRC Cruisers and the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association). Of all his accomplishments, Grady will be remembered best for his love of his family, his down to earth and fun-loving personality and how he cared about the people in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Hall Tant, of Rome; three sons, Grady Lee Tant, and wife, Kayla of GA, Frank Bennett Tant and wife, Rachel of AL, and Jereme Craig Tant and wife, Aubree of GA; daughter, Jennifer Deann Tant of GA; step-son, Barry Dingler of GA; step-daughter, Sarah Jackson of NC; six grandchildren; brother, John Tant of AR; two sisters, Charlene Shepherd of GA and Debra Barber and husband, Billy of GA. Several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews also survive.
A funeral service was held on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 2:00 PM in the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Smith officiating. A private interment followed the service.
The family received friends at the funeral home on Thursday, February 27, 2014 between the hours of 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Georgia Firefighters Association, P. O. Box 1390, Cartersville, GA, 30120.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers, Mark Bagley, Benjamin Helbein, Larry Brown, Howie McCormack, Jim Henion and J.P. Edge.
