

Gwendolyn Hester, age 87, of Cartersville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 20, 1938, in Red Level, Alabama, she lived a full and loving life dedicated to her family and the simple joys that made each day meaningful.
Gwendolyn was known for her creativity and knack for crafting, a talent she often used to bring warmth and beauty into her home and to those around her. But above all, she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family. Her face would light up in the presence of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom she cherished deeply.
She is survived by her children, Ronnie Hester and Sherry Foster (Winston Hines); grandchildren, Brittany Holmes (Corey), Shaun Foster (Caitlin), and Brinnon Hines (Brittany); and great-grandchildren, Easton Foster, McKenzie Holmes, Emmarie Foster, and Gracie Hines. She also leaves behind her beloved sisters, Gloria Tyree and Brenda Syler (Jim).
Gwendolyn was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Hester; her son, DeWayne Hester; daughter-in-law, Sandra Hester; her parents, Mack Edward Smith and Annie Loraine Spears Smith; and her sister, Ann Earnest.
Her strength, kindness, and the love she poured into every part of her life will be forever remembered by those who knew her. Gwendolyn’s legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her memory will be cherished always.
A graveside service celebrating her life will be held in Red Level, Alabama at a later date.
