
Mr. Alford was born in Hokesbluff, AL May 16, 1933. He was the son of the late Hardman Talmadge Alford, Sr., and Rhoda Ann Spinks Alford. He was also preceded in death by five brothers, Louis Alford, Hubert Alford, Talmadge Alford, Nealey Alford, and Edsel Alford, and one sister, Nell Marie Gabbard.
He grew up in Hokesbluff, AL and played baseball on different farm teams throughout that area. After moving to Cincinnati He was even able to practice some with the Cincinnati Reds of which he enjoyed. He traveled to many parts of the country where he competed in drag racing. He started a dry-wall company named HT Alford Construction Company. He enjoyed wood-working, building furniture, working diligently in his flower gardens, and he especially loved working with Glenda doing yard-work and building fish ponds in their yard.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda Hurst Alford, of Rome, to whom he was married for 34 years; one brother, Jack Alford (Beth) of Centre, AL; one sister, Margie White (Arizona) of Hampton, VA; one step-son, Edmond Lane (Susan) of Chelsea, AL; one step-daughter, Lisa Lane of Birmingham, AL; sisters-in-law, Nelda Alford and Sarah Alford Toole, four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Services for Mr. Alford were conducted Monday January 18, 2016 in the Thomas B. Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with Rev. Jerry Dudley and Dr. Charles Drummond officiating. The family received friends Monday at Daniel’s from 12 PM until the funeral hour. Interment followed the service at New Harmony Baptist Church cemetery on Prior Station Road in Cedartown, GA. Those serving as pallbearers were; Richard Carter, Sr, Richard Carter, Jr, Charlie Alford, Keith Bullard, Caleb Kitchens and Billy Gabbard.
