Harold Eugene Brock of Rome, GA, beloved educator, veteran, and family man, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2025 at the age of 92. He was a member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church.
Born on November 19, 1933, in Stilesboro, GA, Harold was the son of the late John Grady and Ila B. Brock. He graduated from Berry High School and proudly served in the United States Navy. Following his naval service, he attended Shorter College for two years before briefly joining the United States Air Force. After completing his military service, Harold returned to Shorter College to complete his degree and begin his lifelong career in education.
In 1962, Harold began teaching mathematics at East Rome Junior High School. His dedication and leadership led to his appointment as principal of West Rome Junior High School in 1965. In 1969, he returned to East Rome Junior High School as principal, where he served faithfully until his retirement in 1988. His steadfast commitment to students, staff, and the Rome educational community left a lasting legacy. After retiring from education, he brought that same dedication and care to his work as head of security at Floyd Medical Center, retiring once more in 2001.
Outside of his work, Harold enjoyed square dancing and had a lifelong passion for riding his motorcycle, tending his farm in Gaylesville, Alabama, and spending time on his tractor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grady and Ila Brock; his first wife, Beatrice G. Brock, with whom he shared over 40 years of marriage; his second wife, Mary Brock; his beloved daughter, Vera B. Brock; and his siblings, Mary Jo Dale, Jerry Brock, and Linda Brock.
Harold is survived by his loving children: daughter, Myra Brock Hufstetler (Keith), and son, Harry Brock (Dawn); grandchildren: Abbey Hufstetler Tillman (Matt), Brock Hufstetler (Haley), Bailey Brock Schmitt (Nick), and Cooper Brock (Caroline); and great-grandchildren: Elijah Tillman, Joanna Tillman, Kennedy Hufstetler, Katherine Hufstetler and Hollis Schmitt. He is also survived by his stepdaughters Missy Smith (Keith) and Kim Barnett, step grandchildren Jake Barnett (Bailey) and Kasey Sobek (Ivan) and step great-grandchild Dylan Barnett.
His family is deeply grateful to the caregivers and staff at Brookdale Senior Living Center, whose kindness, patience, and genuine concern meant so much to him and to us. Through their compassionate care, he was surrounded by comfort, dignity, and peace, bringing great reassurance to our family during this time. They cared for him not just as a resident, but as family.
The family will receive friends from noon to 2 pm at Daniels Funeral Home, followed by the graveside service at 2:30, on Thursday, Jan 8, 2026, at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Open Door Home of Rome @www.opendoorhome.org
