
Mr. Slagg was born in Vesta, Nebraska, the son of the late Rev. Harold T. Slagg and Elinor Johannsen Slagg. He graduated from Valentine, Nebraska High School in 1944 and was a graduate of the University of Nebraska’s College of Law in 1954 with a BS in Law and an LLB. Degree. He later received a Master’s in Education degree from West Georgia College.
He taught mathematics at West Rome High School from 1972 through 1989. As a reflection of a happy retirement he was, at the time of his death, a member of the Rome/Coosa Valley Woodcarvers, the National Wood Carvers Association, and the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
Mr. Slagg was a former member of the American Bar Association, the California Bar Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the Georgia Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Education Association, the Georgia Association of Educators, and the Rome Association of Educators.
He served in the U.S. Navy from December, 1944 until August, 1946. Mr. Slagg served in both the European Theater and the Pacific Theater of Operations as well as participating in the atomic bomb tests conducted at the Bikini Atoll at the end of World War II.
He is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, JoAnne Cox Slagg and a sister Margaret Stouffer.
He is survived by his son, Kevin K Slagg, Of Topanga, Cal and sister Elizabeth Louise Slagg Witteborg of Parker, Co.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 5, 2012, at Daniel’s Funeral Home with the Rev. Bob Ellis officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday from 4 p.m. until the funeral hour. Interment of ashes will follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens at a later date
