Born on August 28, 1939, in Athens, Georgia, Helen was the daughter of the late Charley Reese and Allene Thaxton Escoe. She was a proud 1956 graduate of Athens High School and served as the assistant to Mr. William H. Thrasher, who was the founding administrator of Dekalb General Hospital (now Emory Decatur Hospital).
Helen's life was characterized by her unwavering commitment to her family and her faith. She spent a significant portion of her adult life in Cordele, where she was an active member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. She later became a devoted member of Mars Hill Baptist Church in Watkinsville before recently relocating to Rome to be closer to her family. Helen was a lifelong avid reader who enjoyed sharing the joy of books with those around her.
Helen is survived by her loving husband of many years, George I. Bush, Jr. (Irvin), their two sons George I. Bush, III (Skeeter) of Rome and Charles Allen Bush (Chip) and his wife, Veda, of Powder Springs. She is also survived by her brother, Jimmy Reese Escoe, of Colbert. She was cherished by her five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Helen’s kindness, warmth, and giving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of a memorial donation to the Oconee County Food Pantry at ACTS (Area Churches Together Serving) in Bogart, GA or to the Blue Summit Hospice & Palliative Care Foundation in Cartersville, GA.
