
Mrs. Stewart was born in Rockmart on November 19, 1929, the daughter of the late Andrew Lester Elrod and Malinda White Elrod. She was married to Melton Smith on August 10, 1946, and preceded in death by him on May 28, 1953, and married to George R. Stewart on May 16, 1981, and preceded in death by him on September 26, 1995. She was also preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Stewart was associated with the C. C. Dickson Company for many years, and was a graduate of the North Georgia Business College. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley South Baptist Church, and a former member of the Spring Creek Baptist Church, where she was G. A. Leader and prepared the Wednesday evening Family Night Dinners. She was well-known as a great cook and seamstress, and enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include three daughters, Marcia (Gordon) Scoggins, Rome, and Sandra (David) Bratcher, Silver Creek, and Dr. Jennifer (John) Stewart-Ellett, Richmond, VA; four grandchildren, Gordon (Jennifer) Scoggins, Rome, Camille Scoggins Rush, Rome, Stewart D. (Kristen) Bratcher, Silver Creek, and Megan (Jeremy) Powell, Roswell; six great grandchildren; one brother, Haden (Millie) Elrod, Hiram; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 11, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Griffin Memorial Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home with Dr. Philip May officiating. Interment was in Sunset Hill Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Jeremy Powell, James Cox, Charles Scoggins, Don Bratcher, Ricky Bratcher and Stewart Bratcher. Honorary pallbearers will be Gordon Scoggins, III, and Mitchell Scoggins.
The family received friends at Daniel’s Funeral Home on Sunday, April 10, 2011, from 4 until 6 p.m.
