

Helen Harrison Whitfield, 82, of Rome, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 29, 1943, in Fort Jackson, S.C., Helen lived a life full of warmth, kindness, and quiet strength.
She was a proud graduate of Glynn Academy in Brunswick, Georgia, and later earned her degree from Berry College, where she fostered a lifelong love for learning and community. Helen had a passion for simple joys—bowling, birdwatching, and tending to her flowers, especially her cherished African violets. A devoted member of the African Violet Study Group, she served in various roles over the years, bringing enthusiasm and leadership to a group that meant so much to her.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Michelle Ellingson (Mark), and her son, Vin Morabito (Trish). She was a loving grandmother to Taylor Dotson (Steven) and a proud great-grandmother to Allie Dotson. She is also survived by her sisters, Pat Mills (Aaron) and Betty Godfrey (Paul); her brother, Henry Harrison; and two nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Alton Harrison and Walter T. Melville and Myrtle Ida Blount Melville.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at 2:00 PM in the Chapel of Daniel’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Morning View Cemetery. The family will receive friends earlier that day at Daniel’s Funeral Home from 12:00 pm until the service time.
Helen’s gentle spirit and generous heart touched all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
