He was also preceded in death by a son, Richard "Dick" Lansdell, in October, 1978, and a daughter-in-law, Bernardine "Bernie" Street Lansdell, in July, 1998.
Mr. Lansdell was a southern gentleman. All who knew him loved him very much. He was the oldest living alumni of Darlington School where he graduated from in 1929. He retired from State Mutual Insurance Company in 1975 after many years of service. He loved playing golf and played up until he was 95 years old where he was a member of the Coosa Country Club. The only reason he had to quit golfing at 95 was because of a shoulder injury from a fall. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rome, a member of the Scrap Iron Bible Class, he sang in the choir, and he served as a deacon all at First Baptist. He even drove up until he was 101 years old with a newly renewed driver’s license. Some of his favorite places to eat he visited almost daily were; Chic-Fil-A who for many years gave him a birthday party every year, Harvest Moon Café, Pick O’ Deli, Landmark, Krystal and McDonalds. Mr. Lansdell was very community minded.
He is survived by one son; Tommy Lansdell and his wife Jackie of Rome, three grandchildren; David Lansdell, Laura Luther, Richard Lansdell and two step grandchildren; Elaine Henry and Paige Whitmire. Six great grandchildren also survive.
A graveside service for Mr. Lansdell was conducted Friday November 23, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at Myrtle Hill Cemetery. The family then received friends at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of First Baptist with a service that followed at 3 p.m.
