Mrs. Candler was born in Maysville, GA on May 1, 1919, the daughter of the late Noah Avery Arnold and Tressie Novella Hill Arnold. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Candler, on December 25, 1994, and two sisters, Helen Hardin and Mary Arnold.
Mrs. Candler was a retired Kindergarten teacher in public and private schools. She was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Kindergarten Sunday School for over 50 years and helped found the Mothers’ Morning Out Program.
Survivors include one daughter, Jane Chumley (Dennis), Rome; one son, Bill Candler, Adairsville; two grandchildren, Paige Smith (Bryan), Elberton, and Heather Rush (Ralph), Rome; and four great grandchildren, Olivia Laine Smith, Mason Candler Smith, Eli Bennett Smith and Tyler Isaac Rush.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Dr. David Campbell and the Rev. Bryan Smith officiating. Interment was held Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Sunrise Cemetery in Maysville, GA.
The family received friends at Trinity United Methodist Church on Friday, June 20, 2014, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Pallbearers were Sam Evans, Tommy Snow, Craig Tutterow, Harold Keeler, Doyle Collier, Jimmy Madden, Adam Grant, Brady Drummond and David M. Moore.
