A devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Mr. Satcher was born on April 17, 1927 in Taylorsville, GA, and lived a very happy and fulfilled life for 87 years. Mr. Satcher was predecded in death by his wife of 48 years, Joyce Spradley Satcher of Armuchee. A devout Christian who loved his family, Mr. Satcher is survived by his daughters, Lisa J. Smith of Rome, GA, and Gayle Satcher Vollmer of Naples, FL; and his grandchildren, Kaylyn Satcher Tuggle (Drew Tuggle) of Tuscaloosa, AL; C2C Jon Satcher of United States Air Force Academy, CO; and Harrison Vollmer of Naples, FL.
Mr. Satcher loved his country and proudly served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army from May 1950 - May 1953. After attending the International Harvester School, Mr. Satcher had a successful career with several major corporations including Anchor Duck Mills, Lockheed Aircraft Company, City of Atlanta Water Works, Allied Fence, and 84-Lumber Company. Mr. Satcher also owned and operated Satcher’s Landscaping and Nursery in Florida.
Mr. Satcher was a member of the American Legion and attended New Hope Chapel Baptist Church. Always a man to give generously to causes dear to his heart, Mr. Satcher loved playing Santa Claus for several orphanages in the Atlanta area for many years. He was also very proud of the work he did with Habitat for Humanity by building homes.
Mr. Satcher had an infectious personality that drew people to him. His laughter, his ability of telling stories that captivated audiences, and his uncanny way to know exactly what to say and do for those he loved and cared about made him a wonderful man that will be missed by all. Many people have shared stories about his kindness, benevolence, and ability to treat everyone as though they were a friend for life. He also enjoyed sharing his love of Jesus Christ and his readiness for his final trip home to his Lord and Savior. An indelible mark was left on everyone he met.
Mr. Satcher was proud of many things in his life but his greatest joy was his daughters and grandchildren. He shared his numerous talents, faith, belief in family, love of nature, and pride in his country with each of them. Mr. Satcher was a wonderful father and grandfather who was always kind and generous and lived each day to its fullest and instilled that in his daughters and grandchildren. Even though Mr. Satcher was faced with the effects of melanoma cancer he refused to miss his only granddaughter’s wedding in March 2014. His legacy will continue with his grandchildren.
