Honey Bee Buskill Dews, beloved mother, grandmother, wife, sister, friend passed away on August 6, 2021, after a long battle with debilitating renal disease. Honey entered the world on September 22, 1945 to her mother, Merle Bassett Buskill, and father, Norman Buskill, in Houston Texas. Their family resided in Waco, Texas before moving to Rome, Georgia. She attended grammar school at Central Primary School in Rome, high school at The Thornwood School in Rome, and college at Winthrop University in Rockhill, SC. Honey was active with the chorus, the choir, and the school newspaper. It was during her time at Thornwood that she met her love, Robert “Bobby” Mercer Dews while he was attending the Darlington School, and later as a graduate of Furman University and US Army pilot. They married, survived a combat tour in Vietnam, and set about starting a family. Honey had two children, Mamie and Keith, and became a devoted, wonderful mother.
Honey was a woman of God with a strong faith, was always active in her church, children’s activities, family, and community. During her life, she held many roles: girl scout leader, summer camp director, director of human resources, church choral director, children’s Sunday school teacher, avid gardener, volunteer. One of her most favorite roles was as a teacher of CPR with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. Honey loved to serve. She was a friend and role model to many for her grit, tenacity, resilience, humor, and grace. Honey was a bastion of strength and those who were blessed enough to know her, always knew her heart. She was blessed with a strong circle of lifelong, loyal friends from every walk of life, with whom she made lasting memories. Rarely did she know a stranger. Honey was not a woman of pretense- she was a salt-of-the-earth human who loved deeply and was exceedingly loyal. Most loved were her children and grandchildren, Cameron James, Jackson Mercer, and Katie Grace, with whom she made wonderful memories and traditions to last for lifetimes to come. Her legacy of strength and joy for life will live on through her grandchildren and the lessons she taught them. Her life exemplified supreme integrity and stability through many challenging times and she will be forever missed. Honey has joined her lost loved ones in God’s eternal kingdom after making her beautiful, indelible, bright mark on this world.
Honey is survived by her children, Mamie Dews Kinzig of Dallas, TX, Keith Dews, of Social Circle, Ga, her beloved grandchildren, Cameron Dews, Jackson Kinzig, and Katie Kinzig, her sister Jane Doss of Waleska, GA, and brother Norman Buskill of Dunedin, FL, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

There will be a graveside memorial service at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Monday, September 13, at 2:30 pm.
